With elections approaching, the question arises: What does a city councilor do? What are their responsibilities?
The Councilor will serve a 4-year term and is responsible for legislating, drafting municipal laws, such as the creation of neighborhoods, creation or modification of municipal taxes, public transportation, approval of strategic plans for city development or education, among many others.

In this sense, the Councilor also has the role of monitoring the Mayor's administration, ensuring that resources are used appropriately, in accordance with the budget; advising the Mayor on the creation and implementation of Public Policies; and finally, the judging role, when assessing the Mayor's public accounts, evaluating whether there was any illegality or in the event of impeachment, for example.
To run for City Councilor, you must be at least 18 years of age, have Brazilian nationality, be a party member, fully exercise your political rights, be registered to vote and be a candidate in your respective electoral domicile (in the municipality where you are registered to exercise your right to vote).
